Dedicated to the one I love
Over the past few years, through personal experimentation and my studies at college, I
have gradually refined my photographic style. This process has led me to discover a
strong creative connection with portraiture. I find that working with people, expression,
and identity allows me to communicate my ideas most effectively. As a result, I have
chosen to make portraiture the central focus of my practice. My graded project will
therefore be designed around portrait-based work, allowing me to further develop and
solidify this direction.
Aims of the Project
For this project, I have chosen to base my work on my late mother’s interests, her
favourite things, and especially the quirky side of her personality. This final year in
college feels like a dedication to her my biggest fan and supporter. Each image will be
inspired by bands, celebrities, shows, and inside jokes that we shared. I have also
spoken with family members and her close friends to gather more ideas and ensure I
include the details that truly represent her.
On a personal level, I hope this project brings me closer to her again. She shaped me
into the quirky young woman I am today, influencing my taste in music, my humour, and
so much more.
Artistically, I want to push myself with unique styling choices working with makeup,
hair, multiple models, props, and exploring different lighting techniques. This will allow
me to challenge my creativity and expand my technical skills.
